Goal 15. Life on Land
Sustainable Development Goal 15: Life on Land
As part of the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Kozybayev University supports Goal 15 - the protection and restoration of terrestrial ecosystems and the promotion of their sustainable use, sustainable forest management, combating desertification, halting and reversing land degradation, and stopping biodiversity loss.
Kozybayev University brings together students, faculty, and the public for joint environmental initiatives, fostering environmentally responsible thinking and a culture of careful stewardship of the planet.
Environmental Initiatives and Campaigns
Kozybayev University regularly organizes environmental events aimed at engaging young people in the protection of the environment:
- Participation in the «3.2.1 START» initiative by Coca-Cola Icecek Kazakhstan, aimed at developing youth projects for collecting and sorting plastic waste;
- The «Clean Shores» campaign, promoting the cleanliness of regional water bodies;
- Joint eco-volunteer activities with the NGO «Coalition for Green Economy and G-Global Development»;
- Participation in the Republican Student Festival «Climate Week», and, within its framework, the «Clean Environmental Games» event in collaboration with the National Nature Park «Burabay», aimed at cleaning natural areas and fostering environmental awareness.
These initiatives not only contribute to improving the state of the environment but also cultivate an active civic stance among students on issues of sustainable development.
Sustainable Governance and Education
The university implements a Sustainable Procurement Policy, ensuring the use of environmentally safe food products on campus.
In addition, the Institute of Continuing Education organizes courses on sustainable land management for a wide audience — including students, farmers, business representatives, and members of public organizations.
Through these initiatives, the university contributes to raising public awareness in the fields of ecology and sustainable land use.
As part of the international WFN project “Conservation of Key Sites for the Red-breasted Goose along the Flyway,” the university, together with its partners, works to protect rare bird species and their natural habitats.
Planned activities include:
- Patrolling during migration periods to prevent poaching;
- Organizing meetings with hunters in key goose habitats for education and engagement;
- Capturing and tagging birds with transmitters to track migration routes and support scientific monitoring.
This project brings together the university’s scientific potential and community initiatives aimed at preserving Kazakhstan’s natural heritage.
