Sustainable Development Goal 13: Climate Action

As part of the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Kozybayev University supports Goal 13 - taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.

Kozybayev University actively promotes SDG 13 “Climate Action” by implementing initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions and fostering environmentally responsible thinking among students and staff. The university seeks not only to educate but also to demonstrate in practice the importance of transitioning to sustainable energy sources and the rational use of natural resources.

Renewable Energy in Action

The university has implemented a project to install a small-scale solar and wind power station, developed by students and faculty. It is designed to convert wind and solar energy into electricity, representing one of the cleanest methods of energy generation.
This project serves as a practical example of integrating scientific knowledge into environmental activities and showcases the potential of young researchers in sustainable technologies.

Reducing Carbon Footprint

The university has set a goal to reduce hydrocarbon emissions within Scope 1 and Scope 2, which includes:

  • Improving energy efficiency in buildings;
  • Rational use of electricity and heating;
  • Gradual transition to environmentally friendly energy sources.

The university publicly commits to achieving climate neutrality (net-zero) by 2050 for Scope 1 and Scope 2 - direct and indirect emissions from energy consumption.

Environmental Education and Engagement

Special attention is given to environmental education for students through lectures, campaigns, competitions, and project initiatives aimed at fostering an ecological culture.
Such activities help future specialists develop a conscious attitude toward the environment and a personal sense of responsibility for climate change.
